Two new energy efficient, detached houses with private swimming pools

The plot has the best orientation for the Greek climate, i.e. it is south oriented. It has an open horizon, size of 458 sq.m. and the distance from the sea is 400m.

 We designed 2 similar, detached, independent two-storey houses.

Each maisonette is 148 sq.m., in a land plot of 229 sq.m., has a private open parking space of 13,75 sq.m. and a possibility of a swimming pool of 18 - 27 sq.m. (6.00 – 9.00 X 3.00). It also has a separate entrance and is separated and from the neighboring property.

Housing typology of each maisonette focuses on a two-level main living area.

The ground floor has the living-room, which has direct access and view to the pool, the kitchen, the WC, the main entrance and a secondary auxiliary entrance to the kitchen, beside the parking space.

The first floor consists of one master bedroom with his own bathroom, a second bedroom, a third bedroom / office that looks down on the ground floor through a vertical interstice that ends up on the roof and provides natural light, and a second shared bathroom.

Outdoor covered sitting places at the ground floor, balconies at the first floor and a roof garden with a pergola offer alternative possibilities of relaxing outdoors and enjoying different views. For the connection between different levels i.e., from the ground floor to the roof garden, there is a staircase and also a provision for an elevator with proper dimensions to allow use by people with special needs or for 5 – 6 people. The atrium from the ground floor to the roof garden provides natural light and ventilation throughout the building.  

Internal and external design is made inclusive of people with variable needs to create more space for maneuver mobility aids. Vertical mobility is facilitated with the internal elevator which travels from ground floor to roof garden.

Use of external wall insulation, high-quality aluminum balcony doors, natural ventilation, heat pump with fan coils or air-conditioning, in addition to the provision of installation of solar panels, they all result in a high energy efficient house (A energy class), with minimum consumption for heating and cooling.
